五郎 課長。来月にマイク、いや、グリーンさんがイギリスに帰ることになっているのは、すでにご存知だと思いますが・・・。

Goro

 Sir, I believe you know that Mike, I mean Mr. Green, is due to return to the UK next month.

佐々木 ああ、このあいだ聞いたよ。本当に熱心にやってもらったのに残念だね。で、もう帰国の日取りは決まったのかね。

Sasaki

 Hmm, I heard that some time ago. It really is a shame - he was a very hard worker. Has the date for his return been fixed?

五郎 いえ、まだです。でも、ここの仕事は今月末でおしまいですから、２８日に彼の送別会をしようかと思うのですが、いかがでしょうか。

Goro

 No, not yet. But he finishes work here at the end of this month, so I was wondering whether to hold his farewell party on 28th. Would this be suitable?

佐々木 それはいいね。で、他の人に、もう声をかけたのかい？

Sasaki		 That's a good idea - have you already spoken to the others?

五郎 いえ。実は、これは田中さんの発案なので、彼女は知っていますが、他のスタッフにはまだ誰にも伝えていません。まずは課長にご都合をお伺いしようと思いまして。

Goro Not yet. It was Miss Tanaka's idea, so she knows, but I haven't told any of the others yet. I wanted to find out if it was convenient for you first.
佐々木 １１月２８日、火曜日だね。ちょっと待ってくれよ。あ、いいよ。会場や時間など決まったら教えてくれたまえ。社長にも、一応お伝えしておこう。

Sasaki 28th November - that's a Tuesday, isn't it? Just a minute. That's fine. Let me know when you've arranged the time and place. I'll let the president know.

五郎 恐れ入ります。社長も参加していただけるでしょうか。

Goro Thank you. Is he likely to come?

佐々木 いや、忙しい人だから、多分 無理かもしれないね。

Sasaki No, he's a busy person, so he probably won't be able to.

五郎 パイオニアの最新式レーザーカラオケがある会場を予約するつもりでいます。

Goro We're planning to book a venue with the latest Pioneer Laser Karaoke.

佐々木 お、カラオケねえ。カラオケ付きのパーティーなら社長も参加するかもしれないよ。この間一緒に食事をした時に、クールファイブの「長崎は今日も雨だった」を卒業して、今、内緒で新しい曲を練習しているようなことを話していたから。

Sasaki Oh, karaoke.... If there's karaoke, the president might come, too. When I had dinner with him the other day, he told me he'd stopped singing the Cool Five's "Nagasaki wa kyo mo ame datta," and was practising another song in secret.

五郎 じゃあ、新曲ご披露のいいチャンスかも知れませんね。わたしも社長の「長崎は今日も雨だった」は、入社以来、もう何度も聞かせてもらいましたから。

Goro Well, it might be a good chance for him to air his new song. I've heard his rendition of "Nagasaki wa kyo mo ame datta" countless times since joining the company.

佐々木 いや、ご本人も、もう耳にタコができたといっておられたよ。

Sasaki He said himself that he's sick of it.

五郎 ご自分の声でも、聞き飽きると、耳にタコができるものでしょうか。

Goro I didn't realize you can even get sick of your own voice by listening to the same song too many times.

佐々木 ハハハ・・・どうかね。それに、あの曲はバックで、我々セールス部隊の「ワワワワッ、ワワワワッ」というコーラスも必要で、のんびりと酒も飲んでおられないし。

Sasaki Ha ha ha! And the sales division had to provide the backing vocals for that song, so we couldn't drink in peace.
