A
friend since elementary school. Don't you remember her? She's the
one who played Juliet in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," the English
play at our high school festival.
五郎
ああ、覚えているよ。女優の夏目雅子に似た人だろう? 僕の友達
、みんな彼女に熱をあげていたよ。
Goro
Oh,
I remember. Isn't she the girl who looks like the actress, Masako
Natsume? All my friends fancied her.
比呂子
五郎さんもお熱だったの?
Hiroko
What
about you, Goro?
五郎
残念ながら、僕の趣味からはハズレだね。
Goro
Unfortunately,
she wasn't my type.
比呂子
ホント? あの時、わたしは衣装係で、安い生地で豪華な舞台衣装を製作するのに一苦労だったわ。
Hiroko
Really?
That was when I was in charge of the wardrobe and struggling to create
elaborate costumes from cheap material.
I
was the Second Watch, one of the small parts. I had to wear tights
and a fluttering cape, kitted out as though I was a drifting outlaw
from a Japanese period drama. I had one line - just a few words...
what was it? "Here's Romeo's man:" and then ... a bit more ... er
... er
That's
it. You've got a good memory. It was five years ago now. That was
the only line I had, but I couldn't understand what any of the others
were saying; so I had great problems not knowing when to come on.
What's this Juliet doing now?
She's
been working for a magazine since April, as she's always wanted. It's
not very well paid, but she says the work's really interesting. I'm
sure she'd come if I asked her. Despite appearances, she's surprisingly
fussy about details. So we'd better work out roughly how much a two-night,
three-day trip to Kyoto by car will cost, before I phone her.
Thanks.
1,000 divided by 12 gives 83.3333 litres. At 125 yen a litre - 125
times 83, makes 10,375 yen. I'd litre to do the Mount Hiei driveway,
where we went on a school excursion, so to give a bit of leeway we
should reckon on about 15,000.
