場面：五郎が外から会社に帰って来たところで、田中比呂子と話す。


STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT!

Scene: Goro returns to the office and talks to Hiroko Tanaka.

五郎 ただいま。

Goro

 I'm back.

比呂子 おかえりなさい。どうだった？

Hiroko

Hi, there. How did you get on?

五郎 無事 合格いたしました。晴れて、運転免許を取得いたしました。考えてみれば、３度目だから合格しても当然だよ。ずいぶん投資したんだから。

Goro

 I passed safely. I have now officially got my driving licence. Come to think of it, it was my third time, so I really should have passed. I've invested a lot in it.

比呂子 「３度目の正直」っていうから、だいじょうぶだと思ったけど、でも心配したわ。とにかくおめでとう。成績はどうだった？

Hiroko		 They do say "third time lucky," so I thought you'd be alright. But I was still worried. Congratulations anyway. What mark did you get?

五郎 成績？ 合格さえすれば、成績なんて関係ないよ。

Goro

Mark? Once you've passed, the mark is irrelevant!

比呂子 でも、助手席にすわらせられる者にとっては、関係なくもないわよ。で、早速、車を買うつもり？

Hiroko It's not irrelevant to the person sitting in the passenger seat. Are you planning to buy a car right away?

五郎 うん。維持費のかからない小さいのがほしいんだけど、いくらぐらいかかるかな。確か、きのうの新聞に中古車センターのちらしが入っていたような気がするんだけど、もう捨てちゃったかな。

Goro Yes. I want a small car that won't need a lot of maintenance - how much do you think that would cost? Wasn't there a flysheet for the used car centre with yesterday's paper? I wonder if it's been thrown away.

比呂子 ちょっと待って、今、見てみるわ。・・・あった、あった。これのこと？

Hiroko Wait a minute, I'll have a look. Here it is. Is this what you mean?

五郎 どれどれ。あ、それそれ。

Goro Which one? Oh, that's it.

比呂子 ご予算はいくらぐらい？

Hiroko How much can you afford?

五郎 貯金は２８万円しかないし、それを頭金にして、あとは２０回の分割払いで購入するとして・・・そうだなあ、どうがんばっても８０万から９０万の車しか手がとどかないよね。

Goro I've only got 280,000 yen saved. If I put that down as a deposit and then paid the remainder in 20 instalments, I could go to a maximum of 800,000 yen to 900,000 yen.

比呂子 冬のボーナスは当てにできないの？

Hiroko Can't you count on your winter bonus?

五郎 うん。ボーナスはボーナスで、衛星放送受信セットも欲しいし、スーツも靴も欲しいし・・・。何といっても、セールスマンは身だしなみが大切だからね。それに、初めてのボーナスだから、親孝行もしたいし・・・。やっぱり、予算は９０万までに、おさえておきたいね。

Goro Hmm, with the bonus, I want a satellite broadcast receiver set, a suit, a pair of shoes, and .... After all, a salesman has to take care of his appearance. It's my first bonus, so I'd like to do something for my parents as well. Yes, I'd like to keep it down to 900,000 yen.

比呂子 それぐらいの値段だったら、このちらしの右下の方に、たくさんあるわよ。

Hiroko There are lots of cars at that price at the bottom right of this advert.
